Meet Aaron
Dedication, Heart, and Perseverance
Scarborough, ON — Aaron has been part of The Raw Carrot kitchen at OneChurch since launching in 2024.
“When I was two years old, I had a stroke that paralyzed the right side of my body. It affected my brain and my speech. Surviving was a miracle,” he shares.
Growing up in the Philippines, Aaron faced many challenges finding work. When he moved to Canada, new opportunities opened up, including volunteering at a local food bank. “Volunteering gave me friends and helped me grow closer to God,” he says. “I felt blessed to help people who needed support.”
When Aaron first heard about The Raw Carrot, he knew it was an answer to prayer. “I said yes immediately because I knew it was a good fit for me. I would be meeting people with disabilities like me, and I could make a living doing something meaningful.”
At the Rock Carrot kitchen, Aaron thrives in a supportive, family-like environment. “We bond and help each other. With my disability, I cannot do everything with one hand, so it takes time to figure things out. But I always think positive,” he says.
Aaron’s commitment and work ethic are inspiring. He is the first to arrive each morning, taking care of the kitchen from start to finish, sterilizing surfaces and utensils, peeling, chopping, cleaning pots and pans, and even cleaning the floors. “I am just amazed when I see that he gets the job done. There is a real sense of accomplishment in his work,” says his supervisor.
For Aaron, The Raw Carrot is more than a job. “To anyone with a disability, never give up. Do what you do, and never forget that God is with you. He knows everything and will help you,” he shares.
Stories like Aaron’s show that when someone receives a hand up through supported work and a place to belong, they thrive. We invite you to get involved to help create more opportunities in even more communities across Canada.
